Wow. When you count the year by show year calendar, time sure does fly! On April 30, the 2008-2009 show season ended. Exhibitors have put their feet up, their cats and kittens have a little well-deserved R&R, and then they start looking at the 2009-2010 show calendar which started on May 1!

2007-2008 Cat of the Year

2007-2008 Cat of the Year

Seriously though, exhibitors count a year by the weekend. I personally can remember each show, the judges, the rings, the hotel, oh, I can go on and on. And it feels like we just had the 2007-2008 Awards Banquet at our Annual Championship Show.

Now we’re just waiting for the Executive Office to finish compiling points, and then … TAH DAH!…the new 2008-2009 international winners and regional winners will be announced! At that time we’ll know who Cat of the Year is for TICA! Plus the Best of Breed (cat, kitten and alter) for each breed will also be announced for the show season.

What’s REALLY exciting this year is there will be 25 Top International winners this year. That means instead of a Top 20, TICA now will be recognizing the Top 25 Cats, Kittens, Alters, Household Pets and Household Pet Kittens from around the world! I can’t tell you who they are yet, but when I can just keep watching your RSS feeds for the big announcement!

This year the Top 25 International winners will receive their awards at the 2009 Awards Banquet held in conjuction with the Aquaticats Cat Show in Orlando, Florida.

Take windmills, tulips, 500 beautiful cats, people from all around the world, and sprinkle in some wonderful seminars and discussion. You now have the annual meeting and show of the World Cat Congress! Hosted by Fédération Internationale Féline (FiFe), with a cat show organized by Mundikat Cat Club, the 2009 World Cat Congress was held in Arnhem, Netherlands, April 11-14.

The World Cat Congress, in partnership with Royal Canin, was established in 1994 to promote harmony in the cat fancy. Nine registering bodies, from five continents, make up the Congress. While respecting our various differences, the Congress seeks to promote the health and welfare of cats, encourage the sharing of resources in the interest of cats, and educate people about the global cat fancy.

It was a treat for me to judge my very first FiFe show, along with many of the delegates from around the world. And, I was proud to find that, on the second day of the show, the Best Overall Cat was, SGC Yakimo of Shaggy-Coons, and one of TICA’s current Top 20 Cats!!!
