Savannah and Kurilian Bobtail Accepted to Championship Status

TICA has announced that the Savannah and the Kurilian Bobtail breeds have been accepted to Championship Status! Now they join the other 47 breeds that can compete for championship titles and Regional and International awards.

The Savannah

The first known Savannah was born April 7, 1986 when a female domestic cat gave birth to a kitten sired by an African Serval. This F1 (first generation hybrid cross) was the first on record. This unusual female kitten had both domestic and Serval like traits. Both the kitten and breed were named “Savannah”. Patrick Kelly heard about Savannah and decided he wanted to try to develop a new breed. He persuaded a breeder, Joyce Sroufe, to join him in his efforts. Together they wrote the original TICA Breed Standard. TICA accepted the Savannah for registration in 2001.

The Kurilian Bobtail is a natural breed of cat tracing its origins to the Russian Island of Sakhalin and to the Kuril Islands, an archipelago of approximately 56 volcanic islands, stretching 700 miles between the Russian peninsula of Kamchatka and the Japanese island Hokkaido, separating the Sea of Okhotsk from the Pacific Ocean. It is one of the thirteen natural breeds of cat recognized by TICA.

Breeds of cats who have been accepted for championship status are eligible to compete in TICA sanctioned shows and eligible for appropriate titles and/or computation of Annual Awards. These cats must be 8 months of age or more and may be male, female, neuter or spay. Pedigreed kittens (under 8 months of age) do not earn titles, but are eligible to compete in TICA sanctioned shows and may earn points towards Annual Awards.

TICA's Best Ragdoll Cat of 2010-2011

TICA’s President Vickie Fisher was featured recently on Floppycats. No need to repeat what she had to share with cat lovers, visit Floppycats and read what Vickie has to share about cats, the cat fancy, showing cats and TICA.

The Ragdoll developed in the early 1960′s is a large affectionate, semi-longhaired cat with captivating blue eyes. One of the largest breeds in the cat fancy, the Ragdoll gets along well with children and other pets, including dogs, often living up to its name as it gets carried around the house in a child’s arms. These sturdy cats have no extreme features and blend easily in to the busy modern household
