Take windmills, tulips, 500 beautiful cats, people from all around the world, and sprinkle in some wonderful seminars and discussion. You now have the annual meeting and show of the World Cat Congress! Hosted by Fédération Internationale Féline (FiFe), with a cat show organized by Mundikat Cat Club, the 2009 World Cat Congress was held in Arnhem, Netherlands, April 11-14.
The World Cat Congress, in partnership with Royal Canin, was established in 1994 to promote harmony in the cat fancy. Nine registering bodies, from five continents, make up the Congress. While respecting our various differences, the Congress seeks to promote the health and welfare of cats, encourage the sharing of resources in the interest of cats, and educate people about the global cat fancy.
It was a treat for me to judge my very first FiFe show, along with many of the delegates from around the world. And, I was proud to find that, on the second day of the show, the Best Overall Cat was, SGC Yakimo of Shaggy-Coons, and one of TICA’s current Top 20 Cats!!!
Is that cat REALLY that limp? That’s what I heard from a lady at a show one day…and when I turned around I had to laugh because one of TICA’s junior exhibitors was walking around with a Ragdollabout as large as her…and that cat looked like it was dead (asleep) in her arms. I told the lady it was a Ragdoll.
Maybe it’s that easy-going manner that made the Ragdoll TICA’s second highest registered cat at the end of 2008. They’re beautiful blue-eyed, large, affectionate cats that get along with children and other animals. And they make the wonderful single-person cat, or apartment dweller.
They are one of the largest breeds of cat surprisingly, and you’d never know it. Their fur is rabbit-like, medium length and believe or not, there’s very little shedding! If you’ve never seen a Ragdoll, check our breeders list to see if there’s one near you…then contact them and find out when they’ll be at a show so you can go see one in person.
I know when you peer into those deep blue eyes that look like deep pools of water, you’ll fall in love!
Koala (an Oriental Shorthair) and Amigo (a Bengal) took the airwaves this week when they were interviewed on Albuquerque’s country western station Big I 107.9 Morning Show to promote this weekend’s Feline Fiesta show!
Both boys were a hit with hosts Tony, Lynn and Myles, and did a pretty good job of promoting the 16-ring show that will be held this Saturday, May 9 and Sunday, May 10 at the School Arts Building at the New Mexico State Fairgrounds (300 San Pedro Blvd. NE
Albuquerque, NM 87198).
If you’re a cat lover, you can’t miss it! come by and see the many other cats and kittens that will be at the show between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. both days. You can even get a $1 coupon off the gate by clicking here.
You can’t miss Amigo and Koala, now can you?
Do you live in a cat-friendly city? If you live in Tampa, Phoenix, San Francisco, Portland (Ore.), Denver, Boston, Seattle, San Diego, Atlanta or Minneapolis….congratulations, you do live in one of the country’s top ten cat-friendy places!
What makes a cat-friendly city? The love and care cats receive, says the CATalyst Council, a newly formed organization set to raise the stature of America’s number one companion, the cat. The organization announced CATalyst 2009 Top 10 Cat-Friendly Cities at the American Animal Hospital Association Conference in Phoenix, Arizona.
“Cats really are America’s number one companion,” said Dan Kramer, senior marketing manager of industry relations for Pfizer Animal Health and chair of the CATalyst Council. “Our goal is to recognize and celebrate why cats are such popular companions. We applaud the efforts of these major metropolitan areas for providing a wealth of resources for cats and their owners along with their earned accolade of being one of America’s Top 10 Cat-Friendly Cities.”
