Record Number of Cat Lovers Meet Favorite Breeds in Person

The American Kennel Club (AKC) reported a record number of pet lovers who attended this year’s AKC Meet the Breeds in New York City. Over 40,000 people came to the third annual event co-hosted with TICA at the Jacob Javits Center on November 19-20, 2011.

 “TICA was proud to be a part of AKC Meet the Breeds and give kids the opportunity to walk through the Bengal breed booth decorated as the jungle, and pet the loveable Toyger cat that looks like a wild Tiger, while their parents learned about responsible pet ownership and the importance of learning the characteristics of each breed before you add it to your family,” said TICA President Vickie Fisher.

“The AKC was pleased to join forces with TICA to once again offer the public this opportunity to meet and play with dogs and cats, including some of the rarest breeds most people may have only read about or have seen on television,” said American Kennel Club Assistant Vice President Gina DiNardo. “This entertaining and educational event helped teach children of all ages – including local Girl Scout and Brownie troops – about which dog or cat could become a lifelong member of their family and how to be a responsible owner.”

Bingo Helps Kids Learn About Cats and Dogs at Meet the Breeds

1,000 kids played AKC Meet the Breeds® BINGO at Meet the Breeds in New York City held November 19-20, 2011.

Created by The International Cat Association (TICA), American Kennel Club (AKC) and American Pet Products Association (APPA), AKC Meet the Breeds BINGO helped kids learn about the more than 200 dog and cat breeds at AKC Meet the Breeds®.

AKC Meet the Breeds Bingo encourages Responsible Pet Ownership with questions like True or False: “Dogs/cats need their teeth brushed?” and hints were provided to help kids answer each question. Upon completion, kids received a goody bag complements of the American Pet Products Association and the Pets Add Life Poetry Contest, filled with items donated by the AKC and TICA.

Everything Cats at Meet the Breeds

Meet over 40 breeds of cats at this weekend’s Meet the Breeds co-hosted by the American Kennel Club in NYC! Over 160 cats and dogs will be on hand on Saturday November 19 and Sunday November 20 at the Jacob Javits Center in NYC.
