It's Time to Celebrate!

Yes, it's time to celebrate all of our international winners at the upcoming TICA Annual Banquet and Championship Show. Hosted by Jazzy Cats, this year's banquet and show will be held at the fabulously beautiful Hyatt Regency Hotel/Santa Clara Convention Center in Santa Clara, California.

Okay, so we can't say there's "romance in the air" but we can certainly proclaim that TICA will be celebrating last season's top winning cats, kittens, alters, household pets and household pet kittens from around the world!

Just for grins, we looked at the top 25 international winners for the five divisions, and then sorted them by each region.

Regions With Most International Wins:
Mid Atlantic: 24 Mid Pacific: 15
Northeast: 15 Great Lakes: 14
Southeast: 11 Southwest: 11
Northwest: 10 South Central: 8
Southern Europe: 7 Western Europe: 5
Northern Europe: 4 Asia: 1

A few more 2009-2010 facts that are kinda neat:
523 shows were held around the world
Shows were held in 26 countries (see list below)

Congratulations to the Mid Atlantic region for the most international winners: a total of 24 fabulous cats! But most of all, CONGRATULATIONS TO EACH CAT, ITS OWNER...and of course your regions!

I hope to see you at the Awards Banquet and Show next week. If you can't make it, we'll be announcing the Best Cat, Kitten, Alter, Household Pet and Household Pet Kitten in our next newsletter. Plus Judge of the Year (hope you got your votes in!).

Enjoy the rest of your summer...hope you're having a great 2010-2011 show season so far...and peruse the rest of this newsletter for even more exciting TICA news!

Purr-sonally yours,
Vickie Fisher

Meet the Singapura

The Singapura, whose name is Malaysian for Singapore, originates from Singapore in South East Asia where the ticked coat pattern and dark brown color are a common local combination recognized as the original gene pool for ticked tabbies.

Hal and Tommy Meadow (USAF) brought the ticked cats home with them when they returned to the U.S. in the early 1970s.

These delightful delicate-looking cats dressed in the colors of the old sepia photographs are into everything looking up at you with big innocent eyes when you find them engaged in some mischief.

The Singapura is the smallest breed of cat but is an energy-packed companion that wants to help you with everything you do.

In 1991, the government of Singapore recognized the cats as a living national treasure.

Ever Wonder...

Do Cats See in Color?

The Natural History Museum of Los Angeles not only did some research on this question, but actually demonstrated through images how cats see the world around them.

Per their "results" they have determined that "Cats are not color blind - they have the ability to distinguish between blues and greens, but lack the ability to pick out shades of red."

TICA Promotional Materials

Imagine this: you're at a TICA show, sitting in the benching area in front of your cat's cage.

A couple comes up interested in your breed, and after talking for a while they ask "Do you have any additional information on your breed?"

Well, now you don't have to say "No". Say "YES" and hand them a copy of your breed's profile now available in printable format on TICA's web site.

All you have to do is go to the TICA Breed Page, select the breed you are interested in, and when you're on that breed's page you'll see in the upper right hand corner the words PRINTABLE VERSION.

Click on that and it will open up into a PDF document that you can save to your computer and print out.

And don't forget! TICA also has brochures available that you can print off HERE.
