Letter from Vickie
I'm so excited to announce that TICA has ANOTHER partner!
Motel 6 is now partnering with us to offer exhibitors
discounted room rates at its more than 380 hotels located
across North America. Every penny helps ... I know!
I'm also excited because with this issue we're introducing
a new feature: "get to know" one of our International Winners.
Each cat and its owner worked hard to earn those titles,
so we want you to meet them briefly and "up close".
And speaking of getting to know cats, take a look at
the gorgeous magazine
"Vida Felina" published in Columbia. Not only does it
pay homage to the fabulous felines of Latin America, but
it's also produced by one of our members, Felipe Tamayo.
It's so great to see the love of cats continuing to spread
throughout communities around the world!
One more thing: thank you to all who participated in
the recent survey about the newsletter. This monthly publication
is for you, and about you. Please send in your ideas as
we welcome them! The more we know what you want, need and
enjoy, the better we can make the newsletter! Congratulations
to Inge Dam-Nielsen of Denmark who won a TICA shirt!
So much news! So much fun! So enjoy the newsletter!
Until next month,
Vickie Fisher
TICA President

Meet the Breeds Lets People Meet the Breeder
Meet the Breeds was started by the American Kennel Club
three years ago and is focused on giving dog and cat lovers
a chance to meet all of the breeds in one place.
Meet the Breeds also lets animal lovers get to know the
"people behind the pets": the breeders and owners who can
help families and individuals learn more and advise them
on the "purrfect" pet for their lifestyle.
A few of TICA's member breeders are currently featured
on AKC's web site for Meet the Breeds - Anthony Hutcherson,
Pat Killmaier, and Charles & Suzanne Philbrick.

Meet the ... Munchkin
When someone sees their first Munchkin they usually ask
"can they jump up on things?" You'll hear a quick, resounding
YES from their owner. Although their legs are short (and
compared to a Dachshund) these racy, low - slung Munchkins
are built for speed and ability. These bundles of joy love
being around people, and are devoted felines for families
or individuals.
Although not a new mutation, and dating back to 1944,
the first recorded Munchkin in North America was a short
- legged female named Blackberry that Sandra Hockenedel
found in 1983. A male from Blackberry's first litter - Toulouse
- was given to Kay LaFrance and together they built a diverse
gene pool using domestic cats to cross to.
TICA accepted the Munchkin in its New Breed development
program in 1994, and then the breed was accepted for Championship
status in 2003.

Kitty Can Fly in Cabin to UK Starting in 2012
The
Animal Health & Veterinary Laboratories Agency (AHVLA)
in the United Kingdom (UK) announced that as of January
1 2012, pets are no longer required to travel in the hold
when flying into the UK.
Up until now, UK regulations require all animals to travel
in the hold when flying into the UK.
Starting January 1, 2012, individual airlines that allow
pets in cabin flying to the UK must have approved protocols
in place for checking that the pets are fully compliant
for entry into the UK.
TICA will keep our exhibitors and breeders apprised of
any additional announcements as they are made regarding
"in cabin" travel for pets traveling to the UK.
