Letter from Vickie
New York City ... here comes TICA and our many fabulous
felines.
Yes everyone, it feels like it was only yesterday that
the AKC called us and said they wanted to partner with us
as co-hosts of the third Annual
Meet the Breeds. It's an honor that they asked TICA
to join them this year, and allow us to show off our wonderful
breeds, including the Bengal, to the cat lovers in the tri-state
area!
And even though
Meet the Breeds is in just a few days, I want to give
a resounding 'THANK YOU' to everyone who will have traveled
from far and near ... and brought kitties! ... to the event.
And a big BRAVO goes out to our team who made this happen:
- Cheryl Hogan
- Bobbie Tullo
- Francine Hicks
- Jackie Rose
- Deb Decker
- Jamie Christian (for Stage Schedules and Master
of Ceremonies duties)
- Anthony Hutcherson (who traveled to NYC with cats
to be interviewed and represent TICA!)
- Julia Munde (for designing our gorgeous spectator
guide!)
- Marty Young (who wrangled up advertisers for the
spectator guide)
- And many others working behind the scenes
If you live in the tri-state area, come and visit us!
Support TICA and your fellow breeders, exhibitors and members!
Or if you have friends, family or even people who own one
of your kitties, tell them to come! It will be a lot of
fun!
On another note, this is the beginning of the holiday
season around the world starting this month. Please remember
that while you can imbibe on luscious foods and drinks,
keep kitty safe by not feeding them rich foods, and keeping
them safe when you have visitors at the house.
Until next month,
Vickie Fisher
TICA President

The Real Cats of New Jersey and New York City
It's always said that certain breeds of cats represent
different person's personalities.
Well, we've taken the ladies from the hit TV shows The
Real Housewives of New Jersey and The Real Housewives of
New York City and matched them with their "feline alter
ego".
If you watch the show, then you'll probably give two
paws up for the cats we think match them.

A Safe Holiday with Your Cats
Holidays are filled with good food, fun and laughter
with family and friends ... and felines! To make your holidays
safer and more special for your cats, here are a few things
you can do:
Keep kitty safe with a collar and pet tags. Even if your
cat does not wear a collar, and is chipped, to prevent losing
kitty if he/she escapes out the house, put a collar with
a tag on it!
ReturnMoi
Pets is a global database. If kitty gets lost, you can
offer a reward and include instructions in the database
on returning the cat, and also any medical issues! You can
order your tags online and get them delivered to you before
the holidays! To order
click
here and enter code CAT543.
Give kitty a comfy place to hang out when people are
in the house. It's the holidays, so buy your cat a new cat
tree! Not only will that give them someplace to climb up
on and "get out of the way" in case someone comes in the
room they're in. It'll also give them something new to explore
and be entertained by! Check out

Refined Feline for trees and towers that kitty will
enjoy for years to come!

Talking Turkey with Kitty
Holidays mean cooking really good meals, like turkeys,
roasts and hams! Well, kitty will be enamored with those
delicious smells that fill the house, just like you are.
So, don't let kitty not enjoy some of the great food!
Here's a quick recipe for some "Turkey Nibblers" that
you can give your feline friend to enjoy. You can create
these treats using a dehydrator if you happen to have one.
Simply adjust the drying time to suit your unit. However,
you can still make really terrific jerky treats using a
conventional oven. The key to success lies in keeping a
close eye on the meat during the process.
Ingredients:
- 12 thinly sliced strips of dark turkey meat
Directions:
- Pre-heat oven to 300 degrees
- Spray a cookie sheet with non-stick spray
- Remove any fat and skin from the turkey meat
- With a very sharp knife, cut turkey into ½ to 1
inch slices
- Place turkey strips on a baking sheet in a 300 degree
oven, for about three hours. This is something you will
want to keep an eye on so the meat doesn't char or burn.
We are making jerky, so you basically just want the
meat to dry, and this will result in some natural shrinkage.
- After about 2 and 1/2 to 3 hours, turn your oven
off, leaving the turkey inside
- The turkey will continue to dry as the oven cools.
I like to let the strips remain in the oven anywhere
from six to eight hours until they are completely dry
and cool.
After cooling, you should place the strips in an air-tight
container. You can keep them fresh even longer by placing
the container in your freezer and just pulling out treats
as you need them.

Meet the ... Peterbald
Long legged. Refined. A Russian gem as beautiful as a
Faberge egg. What breed is this? The smooth, bald Peterbald!
The slim, elegant lines, the love and trust shining from
its eyes and its hypnotizing movements make this cat a piece
of living art that mesmerizes all who meet it.
Gently taking your face in their slender paws, these
bat-wing-eared cats steal your heart as they favor you with
caresses and non-stop purrs.
The Peterbald developed from a cross between the Donskoy
and the Oriental Shorthair and its history is entwined with
that of the two parent breeds.
In February 1986, a woman named Elena Kovaleva rescued
a tiny fluffy tortoiseshell kitten from some boys and it
home with her, naming it Varvara.
