City rejects cap on cats and dogs

A proposal for tighter limits on pet ownership in La Crosse had no teeth Tuesday with city officials or its animal control board.


The measure would have lowered the number of licensed cats and dogs allowed per household from four to three. Councilman Ryan Cornett first proposed a tighter leash on pet owners in November after receiving dog complaints in his district. Read More

Cat for rent: Program aims to showcase adoptable felines

Cat show! Central Jersey Cat Fanciers run 20 rings of feline frenzy

The reigning champs include a fluffy Himalayan and a white shorthair named Soffiee.


This weekend, new challengers enter the ring. Make that 20 rings. From Russia, Canada, England and Germany. Cat fanciers and their cats, to the Central Jersey Cat Fanciers Cat Show.


"We've got a lot of people coming from Russia," says Susan Adler, director for the Mid-Atlantic Region of the International Cat Association.


Since 2002, Adler has presided over the show. She spent years breeding cats — "Siamese and Oriental shorthairs," she says — and started the Central Jersey Cat Fanciers with her mother, Gloria. Adler's husband, Larry Johnson, is a professional animal photographer and the cat show's photographer. Read More
