From the President's Desk: A Message from TICA President Vickie Fisher

VickieFisherHi TICA Friends!

I hope everyone had the opportunity to attend last month’s TICA 40th Annual Banquet and Show in Las Vegas, NV. A huge thank you to Jazzy Cats and the Mid Pacific Region for all their hard work in hosting a spectacular event this year. I’d also like to thank our sponsors, Dr. Elsey Cat Products, Royal Canin, Sturdi Products, ViaGen, Starla’s Cat and Paw Tree. Without their help and generous donations the event would not have been possible.

Prior to the events of the weekend, TICA's Board of Directors conducted its Annual meeting. Among the actions taken by the Board were the following:

  • Wording was changed within the Outstanding Cattery program to make clear that “three formal complaints” are required to revoke an Outstanding Cattery Certificate. This change goes into effect immediately.
  • An amendment to Show Rule 23.5 was passed by the Board and will go to TICA's Membership as part of the 2019 Membership Ballot you all will receive soon.  The Show Rule amendment severely restricts the ability to show a declawed cat in classes other than the household pet classes.
  • The definition of Charcoal Pattern Effect was added to the Uniform Color Descriptions (UCD). This change goes into effect immediately.

A number of proposals made by our members -- including changes to Bylaws, Standing Rules, the Judging Program, and the Clerking Program -- were also discussed. A huge thanks to those members who gave their time and thoughts to generate those proposals.
Additional information and complete meeting minutes can be downloaded here

Thank you for sharing your fabulous felines and helping us create the fun and friendships that make TICA unique!

Vickie

What Makes TICA Different?

Blue Globe Name Cat No WebsiteThe International Cat Association® (TICA®) is the world's largest genetic registry of pedigreed cats, the largest registry of household pet cats and kittens. TICA was the first and now the world's largest-registry to allow household cats of unknown ancestry to compete for the same titles and awards as pedigreed cats. The responsible breeding of pedigreed cats preserves the distinct characteristics of individual pedigreed breeds and ensures the continuation of predictable physical and behavioral traits for future generations.

The International Cat Association headquartered in Harlingen, Texas, administers the rules for the licensing and management of hundreds of cat shows annually across the globe and in 104 countries. TICA and its members work together to promote the preservation of pedigreed cats and the health and welfare of ALL domestic cats through education, responsible cat ownership and proper care to the owners of millions of cats worldwide. TICA currently recognizes 71 breeds of cats from the ancient Abyssinian to the newer breeds like the Lykoi cat and including wild looking domestic breeds like the Chausie and Bengals.

Fabulous felines, fun, and friendship. ®
