More than half of owners do not take their cat to vet for regular checkups
ST. CHARLES, Mo., Aug. 3, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- No one can question our love of cats (and cat memes), but that love isn't translating into visits to the vet. While 92 percent of cat owners agree that their cat's health is important to them, only 41 percent take their cat to the vet for regular checkups, according to a new survey from Royal Canin, a pet nutrition company.1 In fact, only one cat is seen by a veterinarian for every five dogs, despite the fact that 10 million more cats are owned in the United States.2

(MVM).
For more than 60 years, the Merck Veterinary Manual has been a trusted source in providing medical information to veterinarians and other animal health professionals. TICA is proud to announce that members will now have the ability to access the Merck Veterinary Manual content and information covering all common diseases and species with thousands of images and videos for free at tica.org.

It was standing room only at the 28th Annual Expo, held at the OC Fair & Event Center, April 28-30
ORANGE COUNTY, CA – (May 9, 2017) Official attendance numbers have been reported and show organizers enthusiastically report that more than 47,000 guests visited the America’s Family Pet Expo (AFPE), held April 22-30, 2017
at the OC Fair & Event Center. In addition, 510 dogs, cats – and even a few rabbits and guinea pigs – were adopted into “forever homes” from AFPE’s Southern California animal rescue partner organizations.
Additionally, approximately 159 of those adoptable animals received complimentary grooming from California groomers
who volunteer their time.

Wyckoff, NJ, April 12, 2017: Winn Feline Foundation is pleased to announce the award of eleven feline medical research grants funded through the generous support of private and corporate donations from around the world.
Winn Board President Glenn Olah, DVM, PhD, DABVP (Feline) stated, “Following a very thorough and rigorous review of 36 competitive proposals, we awarded $214,017 in grants for a diverse group of cat health studies examining the use of stem cells to treat feline diabetes, hepatic lipidosis, hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM) and the potential role of stem cells in regulating T-cell activation and proliferation. In addition, Winn awarded grants investigating shelter cat adoption in families of children with autism, foraging behavior in confined cats, prolonged use of an antacid in cats, probiotic therapy for Tritrichomonas foetus, cryopreservation of feline red blood cells, biomarkers for FIP diagnosis, and potentially vaccinating against a virus causing lymphoma. Winn’s Grant Review Committee was impressed by the total quantity of proposals, the quality of the science proposed and the number of submissions from several countries around the world.”
