Knowledge Base - How do I decide which candidate to vote for?

Your decision on the "right" candidate certainly depends on many factors. In order to help you with your decision, we have created "job descriptions" for the positions which are available for elections. These may give you a better idea of what exactly it is your representatives can and cannot do and what is to be expected of them...

Choose one of the following options:

TICA President

When choosing "your" candidate for TICA President you should keep in mind that this position comes with certain duties and responsibilities. At the same time the president doesn't necessarily always have the same power or role as other Board Members...

The TICA President is:

TICA’s Chief Executive Officer, with authority over the day-to-day operations of the Association.
Chair of the TICA Board.
Official spokesperson for the Board of Directors and the Association.
TICA’s representative within the World Cat Congress and the cat fancy in general.

The duties of the TICA President are:

Schedule meetings of the Board of Directors, prepare agendas and preside over all Board Meetings. Ensure that the Directors are properly informed and that sufficient information is provided to them so that they may form appropriate judgments.
Make day-to-day management decisions for carrying out policy and plans set by the Board and/or Membership and which promote efficiency and customer service.
Analyze financial information, prepare the budget and ensure accurate reporting of the Association’s financial position.
Keep abreast of material external factors affecting the Association.
Lead, in conjunction with the Board, the development of the Association’s strategy and long and short term plans.
Look for and pursue opportunities to market cats, the cat fancy and TICA
In cooperation with the Marketing Director, be involved in acquiring and/or negotiating with corporate partners and sponsors and ensure that all requirements are fulfilled.
Appointment standing and ad hoc committee members and provide direction.

Some additional information:

The TICA President usually does not vote on motions during Board meetings or on board ballots.
The TICA President usually does not participate in the discussions during board meetings.
The TICA President holds an unpaid position.

TICA Vice-President

When choosing "your" candidate for TICA Vice-President you should keep in mind that this position comes with certain duties and responsibilities.

The TICA Vice-President is a voting member at the Board Meeting and on Board Ballots.

The duties of the TICA Vice-President are:

Work with the TICA President on day to day operation of the organization.
Assume the duties of the TICA President if that position is vacated for any reason.
Work on special projects and issues at the request of the President and/or act as liaison to committees at the President's appointment.

Some additional information:

The TICA Vice-President helps the Regional Directors and the Executive in resolving issues and answering questions.
The TICA Vice-President holds an unpaid position.

TICA Regional Director

TICA Breed Committee Member

Breed Committee Members review proposed Breed Standard changes submitted by any member of the breed (group) section.

By-Law 17.4: Duties of the Breed Committees. It is the duty of the Breed Committee to represent the Breed/Breed Group Section members on any proposed Breed Standard change, amendment or deletion, submitted by any bona fide voting members of the Breed/Breed Group Section. Any proposal submitted to the Breed Committee must be approved by a majority vote of the Committee prior to the Breed Committee Chairperson forwarding the proposal to the Genetics and Rules Committees for review and approval. It is the responsibility of the Breed Committee Chairperson to forward any approved proposal to the aforementioned Committees within 5 days of approval by the Breed Committee and to return any proposal not approved by the Committee to the person or persons originally submitting the proposal. Individual Breed Committee members may attach comments to any breed proposal submitted to the aforesaid committees or individuals. Upon approval of the Genetics and Rules Committees, the proposal must be forwarded to the Executive Office for balloting of the Breed/Breed Group Section in accordance with 118.2.
